Creative Counseling
About
Background
I earned my undergraduate Bachelors of Science degree at San Diego State University in Child and Family Development and a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California. I have a certificate in Creative Arts Therapy from The New School and a certificate in Mindfulness, Children's Yoga and Brain Education for Enhanced Learning.
Experience
I have 25 years of experience working with children and their families. This has given me the opportunity to support children through many life stages, helping them build confidence and develop new perspectives.
My focus is tuning into a child’s strengths and unique creativity in order to improve their social development and coping skills. In my sessions with children I like to use a wide range of art and play therapy tools to honor a child’s uniqueness and support emotional expression.
Before moving to Los Angeles I lived in New York where I spent several years as a school counselor supporting at risk children and adolescents. My time there was very rewarding and it helped me develop the important skills of being creative, consistent, and a good listener in order to bring out the best possible solutions for children and their families. Inspiring children to become the best version of themselves is my favorite part of being a therapist!
I also have experience working directly with parents, notably in international adoption, where I guided couples through the ups and downs of the adoption journey; offering support and counseling throughout the process as well as upon homecoming, to ensure a happy family union.
In addition to working with children, I work with adults providing parenting support. I also facilitate self-care creative workshops and Reiki healing to help unblock energy and provide emotional balance. starlitehealing.com
Outside of the therapy room I am always seeking ways to enhance my personal growth and development. In creating art I find meaning and harmony. I also enjoy taking nature walks and participating in wellness retreats.
